Gerald Shepherd: Another Set Of Digital Destructions

This set is very simple progression – too simple probably; evidence of the flexibility of digital media and also perhaps its potential for banality.  That said it does force the viewer to study the work more intently – that’s my excuse anyway!

The original oil painting is entitled “THE PLACE WHERE CHANGES ARE MADE”.  One of a pendant pair which I painted in 2006 and sold not that long after.

Gerald Shepherd: The Digital “Destruction” Of An Oil Painting

The starting image for this series of digital variations is a colour copier scan of a small oil painting digitally stored on a smart drive; however the colours changed markedly in the process and I usually photograph my paintings these days.  I have digitally superposed colours, mainly derived from the picture itself.

I did the original oil painting in 2006.  It is entitled (rather longwindedly)  “The Place Where Fred The Ghost Became Fred The Artist”.  Fred The Ghost was an imaginary childhood friend and when I started painting seriously in 1974 I signed my work (Manfred) Wing hence the title – the painting is a rather formalised impression of the part of the English countryside where I grew up.

Gerald Shepherd: Digital Elaborations (A Sequence Of Changes)

This is a set of digital elaborations (in actual fact a gradual replacement) of an oil painting I completed in 2010 and sold in 2011.  This set and another annotated work are dedicated to the memory of Mrs Eileen Rollo who purchased the original painting.
